Privacy policy

This policy describes how Ekkooz handles your data: what we collect, what we use it for, and how long we keep it.

Who is responsible

Ekkooz is a product of Bootstrapper B.V., registered at Torenlaan 5, 1402 AT Bussum, the Netherlands, listed with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 99673789. We are the data controller for your data. For anything privacy related you can reach us at privacy@ekkooz.com.

What we explicitly do not do

• We do not sell your data and never will.
• We do not share your data with third parties for their marketing.
• We show no advertising and do no profiling.
• This website uses no tracking cookies and no analytics services.

On what legal basis

For ordinary data needed to make the app work, the basis is the performance of the agreement between you and us. For data about your health and wellbeing we ask for your explicit consent on first use. You give that consent deliberately, and you can withdraw it at any time.

What data the app processes

Depending on how you use the app, this may include:

• your name, email address, and your role (in recovery or loved one),
• your moods, check-ins, reflections, and your progress over time,
• your recovery start date and your area of addiction (primary and, if you enter it, secondary),
• the trusted contacts you add yourself: their name and contact details, which you enter to make reachable the people who can support you,
• your general region, only if you give permission, to enable anonymous support nearby. We do not process your precise location,
• the text you enter for the AI features, so we can give you a personal insight in return,
• technical data such as app version and anonymous usage statistics.

Your health and wellbeing data

Information about your recovery, your mood, and your mental wellbeing is a special category of personal data under the GDPR. We process it solely to make the app work for you, to show you your own progress, and to give you a personal insight. We never use this data for advertising and never share it with third parties for their own purposes.

Anonymity in the community

Within the community features, no one is visible by name. You choose an anonymous profile. Other users never see who you really are, and you never see who they are. Support is given and received anonymously. Messages you post in the community are automatically deleted after a period of time.

Who we work with

To make the app work we rely on a number of service providers. We have a data processing agreement with each of them.

• Supabase stores your data, on servers in Paris (EU).
• Cloudflare provides hosting and traffic security.
• Brevo sends emails related to the app, on servers in the EU.
• Anthropic provides the AI behind the insight features. The text you enter for those features is processed by Anthropic in the United States, under appropriate safeguards for transfers outside the EU. That text is not used to train AI models. We do not send along your name or email address.

How long we keep your data

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If your account goes unused for six months, we delete it and the associated data, after letting you know by email beforehand. You can also have your account and data deleted at any time.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct and have your data deleted, to receive a copy of your data, and to withdraw your consent at any time. For any of these rights, a message to privacy@ekkooz.com is enough, and we'll take care of it. If you feel we're not handling your data properly, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

Changes

If this policy changes, we update this page and the date at the top. For substantial changes we will also let you know by email.
